Padre Mariano
Vicente Rojo-Zapanta was a priest assigned in Pandan, Antique in the year
1700's. He worked with enticing effort for the development of the town of
Pandan. The town site was transferred from old Laguinbanwa to its present site
near the shore.
During these development, there was an Ati community established in the
mountain of Pino-poan, Patria. Ati Chief Bulolacao Tumaca went to town to offer
services of his tribe in the construction projects and was gladly accepted.
Bulolacao had a Spanish wife >> Dona Maria Fuentes whom he rescued from an
abusive Governor husband and fled to the mountain. They had three meztiza
daughters:
Cawayan *** Inyawan *** Tinawagan
which Padre Zapanta requested to be educated in the Catholic faith.
When Dona Maria died, Bulolacao moved westward and left the three Tumaca
sisters to the care of Padre Zapanta.
Great names in the history of Antique are replaced with achievements of the
Tumaca-Zapanta lineage.
